Located in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, conveniently close to many of the hangover-inducing establishments around roadway, Saley ha always been able to deliver excellent crepes day in and day out. Whether you need a little medicine for your night of binge drinking or are looking for a cute, quaint, and very reasonably priced bite to eat, Saley has it all.
The first time I ate here I was very hung over. I’m sure just about anything saucy would have tasted great but my friend and I elected to walk to Saley for some crepes at noon. When we arrived we found a table right away and noticed that the menu had been divided into two equally tempting categories: sweet and savory. We ordered one of each type and sat back to enjoy some of the earl grey tea as our alcohol-induced headaches began to slowly subside.
I was not disappointed when the crepes arrived at our table, hot and aromatic. We dug in and our hangovers began to melt away as we enjoyed bite after bite. I had a sausage and spinach crepe while my companion had the banana and nutella one. Both of us left Saley with a light yet enjoyable hangover killer in our stomachs and were able to salvage the rest of the day after consuming a few Advil. The crepes Saley were delicious and sat well in both of our stomachs.
The thing that really makes Saley unique is the fact that its owned and operated in a mom and pop fashion. I really felt like my food was made with care and the people working there were happy to open my eyes and mouth to their delectable food. The wait staff and cook were both very friendly and made me feel as if I was eating at home. Another positive aspect that stands out at this restaurant is the level of generosity the owner and staff have. Whenever I order a cup of tea they refill it as many times as I want and only charge me for one cup. They even give me new teabags! My friend ordered lemon tea and was given half a lemon instead of a sliver, like I always receive at other restaurants. I know it doesn’t sound like much, and may not be exceedingly convincing examples of Saley Crepe’s generosity, but to me, it’s the little things that count.
So far I’ve only tried two different types of crepes, but since they’re open every day I’m sure I’ll be heading in to sample more of their menu in the very near future. If you’re looking for a home-style dining experience and in the mood for some seriously delicious crepes, then Saley Crepes is the place to go. Prices are very reasonable; expect to pay less than twenty dollars for breakfast or lunch for two including all you can drink tea and excellent service. I’ve never had to wait more than five minutes for a table. Sale Crepes is certainly one of Seattle’s best-kept secrets.
