If you are looking for a unique restaurant experience, and you happen to be in South Africa, then Carnivore is the restaurant for you. It combines outstanding service, a friendly atmosphere, and some of the most exotic food you can imagine. Not the faint of heart, this really is a unique restaurant, and one that deserves your attention, and respect.
The first thing that strikes visitors is the actual location of Carnivore. Located in a bush setting, the restaurant is thoroughly African, with tribal decoration, spears and relics all around. The walls are also made of reed, and the rough floor is a reference to the floors of common African huts. Once you sit down you will receive a local drink, served in a fruit that is made of vodka and honey. It is strong, but pleasant, and gets you in the mood for the large, outlandish meal that you are about to enjoy.
As the name suggests, the whole premise of Carnivore is to eat a serious amount of meat. This is not a unique idea in itself - what makes the restaurant so special is the fact that you will be eating some very rare meats. For a set fee you are challenged to enjoy as much meat as you can. Servers walk around the restaurant with swords and meat on long spikes. Just signal them and say when you have enough. Oh, and the meat served includes crocodile, ostrich, impala, sable and giraffe. Lower your flag to surrender!
