Fans of Gabriel’s Fire, a BBQ joint formerly based in Ballard, should feel some relief. You can still get your brisket sandwich fix by visiting the restaurant’s new location in Mountlake Terrace. Although, their new venue is a bit ramshackle and to some critics, on the verge of collapse, it all ads to the experience of eating delicious messy and smoky BBQ.
Brothers Monty and Gabe Slimp decided to move their restaurant to the Mountlake Terrace location after the electrical problems began to overwhelm their Ballard store. However, Monty, who lives in the Mountlake Terrace area felt the move would bring some needed variation to the area, where restaurants with home-made style cooking are at a minimum.
The brothers added a bar to their new location which offers a selection of local beers on tap. Aside from this new addition, they continue to cook up their famous Texas style dry rub barbecue. They pride themselves on cooking from scratch and buying locally when they can (rolls are from Grand Central Bakery etc). They’ll also be the first to tell you their BBQ flavor isn’t liquid smoke or store bought sauce but comes from cooking their meats in wood fired stoves.
So if you’re hankering for some quality BBQ along with sides like mac and cheese and baked beans all cooked form scratch, head on up to 5803 244th St. SW, Mountlake Terrace and pop into Gabriel’s Fire. It’s a bit of drive for those used to the Ballard location, and the venue may seem a bit shaky but don’t worry. It’s all worth it after that first bite of your pulled pork sandwich.
