I’ve been spending some time recently in Omaha and since my arrival I’ve heard lots about the local restaurant Grey Plume. I finally got my chance last night to enjoy this dining experience.
The restaurant has only been open a year in Omaha’s Midtown Crossing but already it has gained quite the reputation for itself. It is owned by a young chef and his Chicago mentor. Their dedication to locating, preparing, and serving sustainable and seasonal plates has awarded them the title “greenest restaurant in America”. I was a bit astonished to realize I had to leave Seattle to find a restaurant with this distinction but I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied with my experience.
My date and I began our meal with the duck fat fries appetizer plate. It consists of potato that’s more like a soft wedge than crunchy fry, in an aioli sauce with a fried egg over the top. As a self proclaimed fry connoisseur, I truly recommend this starter.
For our entrees I oxtail agnolotti which is like a stuffed ravioli. Inside the pasta was stuffed oxtail meat and chevre. These pasta bites lay atop a light chevre sauce with shallots and a tangerine and satsuma counterbalance. Absolutely delicious.
My friend ordered the Plum Creek Farm’s chicken which came served on top of a potato gnocchi sauce and incorporated fresh turnips and pearl onions. Also a very tasty and recommended entree.
Although this is a fine dining restaurant, the portions are not meager and by the time dessert came around we were fairly stuffed and satisfied. We finished on a light note with a delicious and refreshing scoop of lemongrass ice cream.
All in all the service and food was impeccable.
