Pizza'zza: Fairhaven, Washington

I still haven't found my "local" pizza place; this is every bit as important as finding a local brew pub and a local doughnut place. There's a really wonderful place in the area, but it's not really close enough for acts of spontaneous pizza.

But I think now I might have found it.

There's a small mini-mart sort of store called Yorky's in Fairhaven, WA. It's attached to a gas station, and sells the usual sorts of basic groceries, ice, and household necessities. Three things make Yorky's stand out:

  • They have really helpful, courteous employees.
  • They have a pretty solid selection of wine and beer, that's particularly rich in terms of Washington wine, and micro brews.
  • They have Pizza'zza

Pizza'zza is looking like my go-to local pizza place. They're a small order counter and a few tables inside of Yorky's. They make their own whole-wheat and white WoodStone fired New York-style thin-crust pizza dough, and a wide variety of pizza, including custom choose-your-own-topping. Their crust is really lovely; tender and slightly chewy; the sort of crust that doesn't really need much in the way of topping to be fabulous. They also sell pizza by the slice from a changing list of daily selections. These are generous slices, too, loaded with toppings. They also offer a wide selection of hot and cold sandwiches, breadsticks, wraps, and calzones. You can even get a slice of locally made cheese cake. In a couple of weeks, they'll also be opening for breakfast, and launching an espresso bar that will also offer organic teas in addition to coffee.

At Pizza'zza they use local products whenever possible, particularly local organic products. They're located at 1501 12th Street, Fairhaven, WA. You can find their Web site here, and follow them on Twitter.
